Secretary Heinemann to Kick-Off Money Smart Week WisconsinSM at Milwaukee Breakfast

(Madison) Milwaukee- Department of Financial Institutions Secretary Lorrie Keating Heinemann will kick- off Money Smart Week WisconsinSM on Monday, October 2, 2006 in Milwaukee.

The event is the official launch of Milwaukee-area activities for the initiative, which runs October 2-7, 2006 across the state. Money Smart Week WisconsinSM is the first statewide campaign in the nation to focus on improving financial literacy.

Money Smart Week WisconsinSM will feature events for citizens of all ages—from basic “understanding money” classes in schools to “Wise and Safe Investing” seminars for adults.

Money Smart Week WisconsinSM was launched less than six months ago by Governor Doyle’s Council on Financial Literacy, which works with the Governor to improve financial literacy in the state. It has been a successful, cooperative financial education initiative that now includes more than 230 partners and features nearly 450 events, programs and activities across the state.

Other speakers include Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and Susan P. Beacham, co-founder and CEO of Money Savvy Generation.
