Secretary Heinemann to be Keynote Speaker at Manitowoc Money Smart Week WisconsinSM Kick-Off Breakfast

(Madison) Manitowoc—Secretary of the Department of Financial Institutions Lorrie Keating Heinemann will be the keynote speaker at the Manitowoc Money Smart Week WisconsinSM kick-off breakfast on Thursday, September 28.

Manitowoc has the distinction of being the first community in Wisconsin to launch activities for the initiative which runs October 2-7, 2006 across the state. It is the first statewide effort in the nation to focus on improving financial literacy.

Money Smart Week WisconsinSM will feature events for citizens of all ages—from basic “understanding money” classes in schools to “Wise and Safe Investing” seminars for adults.

Money Smart Week WisconsinSM was launched less than six months ago by Governor Doyle’s Council on Financial Literacy, which works with the Governor to improve financial literacy in the state. It has been a successful, cooperative financial education initiative that now includes more than 230 partners and features nearly 450 events, programs and activities across the state.
