Secretary Heinemann Presents $500,000 Check To Village of Gays Mills

(Madison) DFI Cabinet Secretary Lorrie Keating Heinemann presented a check for $500,000 to Gays Mills village president Larry McCarn and other village officials at a presentation ceremony at the Gays Mills Community Building this morning. Secretary Heinemann made the presentation on behalf of Governor Jim Doyle.

The money comes in the form of a Community Development Block Grant-Public Facilities (CDBG-PF) from the Department of Commerce. It is designated to pay for nearly half of the cost to the village of upgrading a portion of its original sanitary sewer collection system and its treatment facility. The total cost of the project is $1.1 million.

“Investments in infrastructure are one of the best ways to promote community growth and create new jobs,” said Governor Doyle. “I am happy that this grant will help the people of Gays Mills upgrade their sanitary sewer system. It is one of the ways my Grow Wisconsin 2005 Agenda helps communities maintain and promote a high quality of life for its residents and promote future growth.”

CDBG-PF help finance a variety of projects designed to enhance the economic vitality of communities. They include the provision of community buildings, expansion of the tax base, job creation and increased investment in downtowns. Annually the state develops funding priorities and criteria for selecting projects.
