Nominations Now Open for Governor’s Financial Literacy Awards

(Madison) DFI Secretary Lorrie Keating Heinemann announced today that the Governor’s Council on Financial Literacy (GCFL) is inviting nominations for Governor’s Financial Literacy Awards. Secretary Heinemann, who is chair of the GCFL, said nominations will be accepted until December 28, 2007.

The awards recognize excellence in promoting financial literacy among Wisconsin citizens. They were created by the GCFL to honor both individual and organizational efforts and are based on four criteria:

  • Innovative implementation
  • Demonstrated measurable results
  • Collaboration with partners
  • Scope: statewide or potential to be statewide, or focused to need-based groups

“The awards are great way to spotlight deserving people and organizations for extraordinary service above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to promoting financial literacy,” said Secretary Heinemann. “They are also a way to amplify successful financial literacy activities and encourage others to promote and support financial literacy.”

Both individuals and organizations may nominate themselves. A one-page nomination form is available on the DFI website at:

The GCFL will establish an awards committee to review the nominations and provide recommendations of individuals and organizations. The GCFL will make the final selection of awards recipients from the committee’s recommendations during its first meeting in the 2008 calendar year. The GCFL may select individuals not to exceed ten, and organizations not to exceed five. The awards will be presented at a time yet to be determined by the GCFL.

DFI’s Office of Financial Literacy will coordinate with the GCFL and assist in arranging an awards ceremony.

Nominations may be submitted to the Department of Financial Institutions, Office of Financial Literacy by one of three methods.
