DFI Supports 8th Annual Madison Money ConferenceTM

(Madison) DFI Secretary Lorrie Keating Heinemann said today that DFI supports the eighth annual Madison Money ConferenceTM. The event takes place Saturday, August 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Wright Middle School, 1717 Fish Hatchery Road. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m.

Maurice Ashley, International Grand Master of Chess will be the keynote speaker. Mr. Ashley, who has been called the “Tiger Woods of Chess,” made history when in 1999 he became the first, and only African-American, to attain the coveted title of International Grand Master of Chess. His book, Chess for Success crystallizes his vision of using chess to help at-risk youth.

“The Madison Money Conference offers a wonderful opportunity for families to get unbiased financial information from experts they can trust and to start taking control of their financial future,” said Secretary Heinemann. “I encourage everyone to attend, particularly young people.”

The event offers impartial financial programming for families in a fun, motivational setting. Its structure includes several one-hour breakout sessions for both personal finance novices and more advanced money managers. Adult sessions include “How to Get Out of Living Paycheck to Paycheck,” “How to Buy Your First Home,” Predatory Lenders: Swimming with the Sharks,” “Get Smart about Vehicle Financing” and “Energy Saving Tips.” Youth sessions include “How to Find a Job” and “How to Start Your Own Business.”

Adult participants at the Money ConferenceTM get a free copy of their credit report that includes their credit score and can meet one-on-one with a credit expert. The event includes a continental breakfast and lunch. Limited free childcare for ages two through six is available only for those who pre-register and call in advance. Attendees will have numerous opportunities to win door prizes throughout the day. Limited scholarships are available by calling 608-663-6332.

Registration and continental breakfast for the Money Conference TM start at 7:30 a.m. Advance registration fees are $5 for adults and $2.50 for youth (under 18 years). Walk-ins who are adults will be charged $7.50 at the door and walk-ins who are youth will be charged $5.00 at the door.
