Northwest Wisconsin Area to Hold
2008 Money Smart Week WisconsinSM Kick-Off Luncheon
(Spooner) The Northwest Wisconsin Area Money Smart Week Wisconsin planning
team will hold a kickoff luncheon for the 2008 campaign on Tuesday, June
10 at the Spooner Market and Grill in Spooner at 1:00 p.m. The team encourages
all individuals and organizational representatives who are interested
in participating in the 2008 effort to attend. RSVP by Friday, June 6
is encouraged by contacting Teri Schult, teri.schult@witc.edu, at Wisconsin
Indianhead Technical College.
Dave Mancl, Director of DFI’s Office of Financial Literacy will
give reports during the meeting on last year’s campaign and talk
about plans for this year. The discussion will focus on both successful
and unsuccessful past activities and events. It will also look at how
best to prepare for 2008. There will be specific emphasis on planning
events and activities that address the current economic situation including
the tight employment market, high fuel prices and rising food costs.
Money Smart Week Wisconsin was the first statewide financial literacy
social awareness campaign in the country when it began in 2006. Its goal
is to improve the financial literacy of Wisconsin citizens. It is modeled
after similar campaigns run by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago in
the cities of Chicago and Detroit. The Northwest Wisconsin Area planning
group was one of 12 in the state last year. Last year’s campaign
featured 761 events sponsored by 579 partners. Nearly 9,000 Wisconsin
citizens participated.
Money Smart Week Wisconsin 2008 will run October 12-18, 2008.
