DFI Sponsors First-Ever Red Cliff Bayfield Money ConferenceTMFinancial turn-around author Susan Klun will keynote event (Madison) DFI Secretary Lorrie Keating Heinemann said today that DFI is delighted to help sponsor the historic, inaugural Red Cliff/Bayfield Financial Wellness Conference—The Money ConferenceTM. Bayfield School will host the event Saturday, May 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Registration and breakfast begin at 7:30 a.m. The family event includes age-appropriate sessions for youth ages six through 18 as well as adults. “Part of DFI’s mission is to promote financial literacy,” said Secretary Heinemann. “This event is particularly timely because these economic times are hard on everyone. Attendees have the opportunity to gain skills and get financial advice from experts. I urge everyone to attend.” Susan Klun, president of Money Tutor LLC, who once considered herself a woeful financial failure, will be the keynote speaker and will talk about her inspiring story. Mrs. Klun authored the book Plotting and Sailing the Course: A Workbook for Life based on a journal she kept while she and her husband worked with Catholic Charities to get their debt under control. The Money Conference began 10 years ago in Milwaukee. Seven Wisconsin communities—Fox Cities, Madison, Milwaukee, Racine/Kenosha, Red Cliff/Bayfield, Shawano/Menominee and Wausau—will offer one in 2009. Asset Builders of America—a nonprofit organization that last year won a Governor’s Financial Literacy Award for its work promoting financial literacy—produces the event. No selling of products or services will take place. Participants will be eligible for door prizes galore throughout the event. A conference highlight will be a grand prize drawing to win a Wii Gaming Console (only those present may win). The 13 one-hour sessions for adults include:
