Governor Scott McCallum Announces Second Summit on Capital

(Madison) Governor Scott McCallum has announced the Governor's Summit on Capital 2002 will be held March 19-20, 2002 at the Midwest Express Center in Milwaukee. The goal of the conference is to promote capital investment in Wisconsin businesses to help expand and improve the state's economy.

This year's event will put a greater emphasis on regional and national perspectives. The 2002 Summit also will focus attention on increased participation by individual investors, progress made since last year's inaugural Summit, Wisconsin success stories, steps taken to increase the amount of capital available to Wisconsin businesses and ways to continue improving the state's capital networking infrastructure.

"This Summit is Wisconsin's most important business-growth forum," says Governor McCallum. "It will lay the foundation to attract investments that our businesses need to compete successfully in the new economy. While the national economy has changed greatly since last year, I feel strongly that we, in Wisconsin, by focusing our efforts, can produce more equity capital for our entrepreneurs. We have the essential building blocks to accomplish it, now we have to work together to map the route to Wisconsin's capital future."

The Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) through Invest Wisconsin is organizing the conference with help from the Department of Commerce, University of Wisconsin, Medical College of Wisconsin, Wisconsin Technology Council, TechStar and several other organizations.

The registration fee is $175 per person through March 4, 2002 and $200 per person after that date. A fee of $75 per person is available for individuals who wish to attend only the Pre-Summit sessions on March 19. Interested persons can be placed on a mailing list by calling: (608)266-8915. A hotel rate of $89 per night plus tax is available until March 4 at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center (414)-271-7250. More information about the Summit and a registration form are available on the DFI website at www.wdfi.org.
