DFI Supports Fourth Annual Wausau Money ConferenceTM

Kicks Off Area 2010 Money Smart Week Activities

 

(Madison) DFI Secretary Lorrie Keating Heinemann said today that DFI supports the fourth annual Wausau Money ConferenceTM.  The event takes place Saturday, October 2 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at North Central Technical College.  It marks the beginning of the 2010 Money Smart Week Wisconsin campaign in the Wausau area.  The statewide campaign takes place October 2-9.       

Guy Russ, Senior Manager, Wipfli LLC will be the keynote speaker.  Mr. Russ is an experienced professional assisting a wide range of individuals and businesses throughout his 15-year career.  He has a passion for helping people improve themselves and their lives by taking personal responsibility to learn and apply new information in practical ways.  Guy’s personal motto is “learn it, try it, make it better.”

“The Wausau Money Conference offers a wonderful opportunity for families to get unbiased financial information,” said Secretary Heinemann.  “It is a great kickoff to the 2010 Money Smart Week Wisconsin campaign in the Wausau area.  I encourage everyone to attend the Money Conference and also other events during Money Smart Week.”    

The event offers impartial financial programming for families in a fun, motivational setting.  Its structure includes over 20 one-hour breakout sessions for both personal finance novices and more advanced money managers.  Adult sessions include “How to Read Your Credit Report and Improve your Credit Score,” “Budgeting Basics: How to Have More Money Than Month for a Change,” “Meals in a Flash for Less Cash,” “How to Buy a Used Car,” and several others.  Also included are age-appropriate sessions for youth ages 6-18 and three one-hour sessions in Hmong.  Attendees are eligible to win door prizes throughout the day.     

Adult participants at the Money ConferenceTM get a free copy of their credit report that includes their credit score and can meet one-on-one with a credit expert.  The event includes a continental breakfast and lunch.  Limited free childcare for ages two through six is available only for those who pre-register and call in advance.  Attendees will have numerous opportunities to win door prizes throughout the day. Registration and continental breakfast for the Money ConferenceTM start at 8:30 a.m.  Advance registration fees are $3 for adults.  Youth (under age 18) get in free if they pre-register by September 24.  Walk-ins who are adults will be charged $6.00 at the door and walk-ins who are youth will be charged $2.00 at the door.
